Another NFL season has come and gone, and another year of fans angry over Taylor Swift being shown on the jumbotron is loading.
Since the two went public with their relationship in 2023, Taylor Swift attended her first Kansas City Chiefs game. Swift has attended many games over the years since. While Taylor attends the games when possible to support her boo thing, NFL fans became increasingly irritated at her attendance as she was frequently flashed on the jumbotron and viewers’ TV screens.
Swift did not let the hate get to her, noting early on that she had no authority over how often she was shown. Because of this, she did not care about the “dads, Brads, and Chads,” who were annoyed with her being at the game.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in. There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.
I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
While fans still expressed annoyance at her attendance at the game, things came to a head during the Super Bowl earlier this year when the stadium loudly booed Swift when she was first shown on the jumbotron, reportedly making her upset. While that was out of Swift’s control, I can’t blame her for being annoyed with that reaction.
As she said, she’s there to cheer on Travis and does not necessarily want the camera’s attention.
While the Swifties will defend her to their death, she also has a famed country music colleague on her side. Vince Gill does not understand why NFL fans get so “uptight” regarding Swift’s game attendance. In a recent interview with the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, she shared how much he admires Swift before touching on her being at NFL games.
“She’s awesome. I’m crazy about her. I did the CMA Awards with her one year. Myself and Alison Krauss and some other folks did an acoustic version of her song, ‘Red.'”
Outside of admiring her work musically, Gill also admires that she can light up a room, which is part of the reason he does not understand why people get so upset when she’s at NFL events.
“I’ve always been crazy about her, and I just laugh when everybody gets so uptight when she goes to football games.”
Gill says that the Chiefs flashing to Swift in the crowd is no different than other franchises flashing to their leaders, like Jerry Jones, the owner, and general manager. He recalled using that specific example in an interview with another media outlet.
“I said ‘Hell, they don’t cut away to her as much as they do Jerry Jones at the Dallas Cowboys games — what’s the big deal?’
Somebody said they figured it out on one of the games, ands he was only on camera the entire game for 44 seconds — in a three-and-a-half hour ballgame. You’re uptight about that? Really? You know, I don’t get it. The scrutiny that that much popularity is under is staggering.”
He concluded his thoughts on the topic by noting that it’s no different from a couple going on a date or other girlfriends/wives showing up to support their men at their events.
“It’s just a girl that likes a guy, and they’re going to a ballgame.”
He’s not wrong.
Angry NFL fans will have their panties in a wad again this season as Swift and Kelce are still going strong. Not to mention showing Swift throughout the games she attends is a massive cash cow for the NFL as it draws in her fans to tune into games.
