Grab the tissues.
Jon Pardi does it again today, releasing a heartfelt song inspired by his daughters titled “She Drives Away.” Jon Pardi is swapping in his wild, tequila-filled nights for family nights as he reflects on how his daughters have changed his life.
Pardi shared a preview of this single on his firstborn’s birthday with a montage of tender moments he and Presley have shared throughout her life. Now, as a girl dad of two, Pardi’s love for being a family man has grown, and as many parents do, he’s realized that time flies when raising children.
“Can’t believe Presley is 2!!! No one is lying when they say it goes by quick! Happy birthday, baby girl. Here is a little teaser of one of my favorite songs off the new album.”
Something about a dad singing about his daughters will always tug at my heartstrings, and “She Drives Away” is no exception. Unlike many other father/daughter songs that touch on how a father will always be their daughter’s first love and will pick up the pieces when a boy breaks their heart, Pardi focuses on the heartbreak a father feels when they grow up and become more independent, not relying on their dad as much. And touches on his daughters finding the love of their life versus facing heartbreak.
While it’s beautiful to see your kids grow up, become successful, and build a life of their own, I am sure that every parent at some point wishes they could reverse time and have their child back in the diapers or toddler phase, where they are more dependent on you.
Penned by Jim Bell, Jordan Minton, Seth Ennis, and Zach Abend, “She Drives Away” focuses on the feelings associated with the moments with his daughter in a car, from putting her in the car seat coming home from the hospital to driving with her license for the first time, and to her then driving off in a car after her wedding day.
“A little down the road
You call him outta the blue
Tell him you bought a ring
Next thing you’rе saying I do
He’s fighting tears while thеy’re dancing
To “My Little Girl”
It ain’t just cans on a Chevy, it’s his whole world
She drives away
And he’s scared to death
You hold the wheel
He holds his breath
You ain’t thinking ’bout him
Thinking how it feels like yesterday
He drove her home
Now she drives away…”
Jon Pardi knocked this one out of the park, and if you have a soft heart like me, then you’ll be left with tear-stained cheeks after listening to this one.
I can see why this is one of Pardi’s favorites from his upcoming record…

Jon Pardi’s Upcoming Project Is Around The Corner From Release
“She Drives Away” is the fourth song he’s released from his upcoming record, Honkytonk Hollywood. The 17-song album will be everywhere on April 11th, and Pardi said that Tom Petty was a driving force behind this album.
Pardi told Whiskey Riff that Petty inspired him to switch things up in the studio for this album, resulting in a record that pushes Pardi’s sound in a new way.
“I made this whole change of going with Jay Joyce, reaching out first to ask if it was even doable and if he wanted to do it, from Tom Petty…
In between these records, they put the Wildflowers documentary out of him working with Rick Rubin, and Tom was like, ‘You know man, I like to switch up producers every three records’ or whatever he said, and it was just kinda like Tom Petty from heaven shouting down, ‘Do it.’
He said it pushes him to grow as an artist and a songwriter and a musician, and it’s just like, ‘Man, that’s Tom Petty telling you that. You should try that. You’ve got nothing to lose, it’s Jay Joyce.’”
Jon also feels that this album is different from others because he was able to use his touring band in the studio with him. He says using his touring band ultimately makes them all better musicians and enhances the finished product.
“Jay likes to use the touring band guys because it’s like a camaraderie, and I love all my band, we love each other…
It made us a better band, and we would joke about little things that Jay would tell us…It was just a good thing for all of us, and now when we’re on stage, we feel like we graduated a year of class and we’re ready for the next round.”
Based on the previews we’ve gotten of the record so far, this will be one for the books. Fire up some of the other previously released singles before you go.

Right after Pardi releases the new record, he will tour with Corey Kent and Kassie Ashton to celebrate the new music. A portion of ticket sales from the tour will benefit the newly established Starlight Fund.
