Setting the record straight.
Of course, about a month or so ago, there was a lot of buzz on social media about the fact that Megan Moroney and Riley Green were hanging out together while on vacation in St. Barts. People online really, really looked into it, and were fully convinced they were a couple.
Riley recently said that he was “pretty damn single,” and Meg hasn’t said much about the rumors at all, until now. The Georgia native sat down for an extensive feature with Rolling Stone, where she talked about moving to Nashville, and how she managed to transition from influencer to country music star, as well as her love life, which has been a hot topic among her fans for years now.
She was first linked to Morgan Wallen a couple years ago with the release of her song “Tennessee Orange,” which featured her wearing his shirt on the single cover art. She played it coy at first, but eventually admitted that it was Wallen’s and while they had a little fling, but they’re friendly now and nothing more:
“It’s one of those things where of course they’re going to wonder. I write songs that people can dream up in their head [and think] that this is who it’s about. As much as it is my story, it’s their story, too, and I just have respect for the other artist because they’re public, too.”
Megan said she was most recently in a relationship for almost a year with a “regular finance dude,” though she’s been single for about a year now and that’s been good for her with all that’s going on in her professional life. Megan also admitted that she has “bad taste”:
“I could not imagine going through the past year if I was upset and crying over a dude. I feel like I’ve always had bad taste in men. I had a really sweet boyfriend in fifth grade, and I broke up with him because I wanted to date the eighth-grade bad boy who had failed a bunch of times.… I don’t know if this song will make my next album, but an opening line is ‘I know how to pick them. Copy, paste.'”
When pressed on her fling with Riley, Megan said that he just so happened to be there on vacation with his own friends, and them being there at the same time was a coincidence. She insisted that them hanging out is nothing more than friendly, so there you have it, people:
“He was individually on his vacation with his friends. St. Barts is a popular place! It’s one of those things where if you know someone on a small island, you’re like, ‘Oh, sh*t, you’re here too.’ So it was fun.
Just because we’re hanging out doesn’t mean we’re romantically dating. You know what I mean?”
I tend to believe her that they’re not an official couple, but what happens in St. Bart’s stays in St. Bart’s, right? I wouldn’t be surprised if it got a little more flirty (I mean, look at them), but it’s also none of my business, so I digress…
In terms of how much Megan’s fans focus on, and deeply look into, her personal life, she says it doesn’t bother her at all:
“I don’t blame them for doing some FBI research.”
That’s a pretty good attitude to have about it, because I imagine being in her position when it comes to people wanting to know every little thing about her personal life would be exhausting, so it sounds like she has a pretty healthy perspective.
In terms of Riley’s dating life, though, since he’s back on tour with Ella Langley, fans are already drumming those dating rumors back up, so it never really ends. No matter what Riley Green is doing, fans are going to speculate about who he is potentially dating.
A while back, Meg stood in for Ella during a duet of “Don’t Mind If I Do,” which was not too long before their (respective) St. Bart’s trips. Do with that information what you will:
