Pure country perfection.

Zach Top has been out on the road already this year, trekking across the country on his Cold Beer & Country Music tour in support of his debut studio album that was released last year, and it looks like an awesome show. He’s had Jake Worthington and Cole Goodwin rotating opening different dates, which makes for a great bill all-around.

The Washington state native has made a huge splash following the release of the album, notably for the neotraditional and classic country sound he’s made a name for himself bringing back. Doing that in general has proven to be a difficult task in country music over the last decade or so, so the fact that he’s doing it in the mainstream is even more impressive.

I’ve yet to see him at a live show, but I’m hoping to soon because I’ve heard he’s amazing in concerts and that’s all I need to know… so when I saw this video on TikTok of him covering Keith Whitley’s “I’m Over You” at his recent show in Nashville, I instantly loved it.

Of course, Whitley died way too young at the age of 34 years old, but he’s an artist that many consider to be a legend, and we can only imagine what he would’ve created had he been alive longer. It’s a tragic story, but the small amount of music he left us (relatively speaking) is some of the best pure country that has ever been made.

In many ways, I think Zach and Keith have similar tones to their voice in terms of how pure it is, and Zach absolutely nailed this rendition of “I’m Over You,” which was written by Tim Nichols and Zack Turner and posthumously released in 1990 as the third single from the album I Wonder Do You Think of Me. It peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, and remains a fan-favorite to this day.

Top is probably one of the only younger, more mainstream artists who could even begin to do this justice… inject this directly into my veins:

Top has just one stop left on his tour tonight in Atlanta, and he will head out to open for Dierks Bentley on his Broken Branches tour this summer, in addition to opening a couple more shows on Alan Jackon’s farewell tour.

Turn it up…
