Lainey Wilson’s “4X4XU” Goes #1 The Same Week She Got Engaged To The Man Who Inspired The Song

A full-circle moment.

Over the weekend, Lainey Wilson scored her 8th career number one song at country radio with “4X4XU,” which is featured on her 2024 Whirlwind album.

Written by Lainey along with Jon Decious and Aaron Raitiere, it’s a sweet love song about finding “home” no matter where you’re at in the world, as long as you’re with the one that you love. It’s currently sitting at the top of the Mediabase country chart, which is one of two charts labels use to officially track their songs performance, along with Billboard’s Country Airplay chart.

Of course, it’s pretty fitting for this song in particular to go #1 this week, as Lainey wrote it about her now-fiancé Devlin “Duck” Hodges, who just proposed to her last week.

I mean, you can’t dream it up any better than that…

In an interview with Vanity Fair last year, Lainey said she was able to write “4X4XU” in 30 minutes, which is much faster than she normally writes, because it just “felt right”:

“I’m very proud of that song, and we actually wrote that song in 30 minutes, which is crazy for me because I don’t write songs in 30 minutes. Normally it takes me six hours, and then we might come back to it again the next day. But that one just fell out of the sky, and it just felt right and it flowed.”

She added that she wanted to give fans a peak into her personal life, saying it was intentionally “flirty” but deep at the same time:

“Thinking back to my life and life on the road and making sure that I’m keeping these things that make me feel like I’ve got my feet on the ground for me right now, that is my relationship and I’m in a happy, healthy one. One of our favorite things to do is ride around, and it’s the simple things in life.

It’s about keeping your people close and the ones that remind you who you are and what you stand for, and remind you to stick to your guns and stay true to yourself. Those things make me feel at home.

So when we were sitting down to write the song, I was like, of course, let’s be cute with it, and let’s be flirty and have little wink moments, but let’s dig a little bit deeper. Let’s let this person know just how important they really are in your life and how important those simple moments can be.”

Just a dream week for her all-around… a huge congratulations to Lainey on everything both in her professional and personal life. She’s earned it all.

Turn it up…
