Wyatt Flores is back with another music video, and this one might be even better than the last.
Continuing to roll out content following the October release of his spectacular 14-track Welcome To The Plains record, Flores dropped a music video for the anthemic “Little Town” just a couple of weeks ago. Filmed in Beaver, Oklahoma in the state’s panhandle region where Flores has a lot of family, the song and nostalgia-inducing music video encourage the listener to slow down and appreciate what makes the little towns across the country so special.
Now Flores is already back with another music video, but in stark contrast to the feel-good nature of the Oklahoma-set “Little Town” video, Flores and company traveled to Los Angeles to capture a more lonesome feeling in the “Only Thing Missing Is You” music video.
The fourth track on the album, “Only Thing Missing Is You” is a catchy tune that addresses the dichotomously lonely nature of life on the road for a young touring musician. A sentiment that is often not considered by the fans or those on the outside looking in, touring can be an incredibly lonely endeavor, though it may seem counter intuitive given the time an artist spends with their band and the constant attention they receive from fans. And as conveyed in the song, if there is someone you are missing at home that you had to leave to go out on the road, that lonely feeling only gets stronger.
“A full sky of stars shining so bright
Or a penthouse with a hot tub, they’re treating us right
We’re going on TV, so you’ll see me real soon
The only thing missing
Is you when I lay down, and I’m out on the road
And it’s too late for you to answer your phone
And it’s you when I wake up, and I’m still alone

Written in Los Angeles with lyrical powerhouse Aaron Raitiere back in April, Flores and his band filmed the music video in October while back in LA touring. And with the help of Wales Toney and Kevin Pohle, the video does an incredible job of capturing the emotional sentiment in “Only Thing Missing Is You.”

What a song and a music video from Wyatt Flores. The Stillwater, OK native who grew up intertwined with the state’s Red Dirt scene has proven to have an incredible ability to make easy listening music that appeals to the masses while still upholding the tradition of authenticity in songwriting and Red Dirt music. This song, and even the whole Welcome To The Plains album, are no exception.
