Amy Schumer and Netflix are teaming up to deliver viewers… whatever this new film is.
On February 5th, the streaming service will release the new comedy and romance movie titled Kinda Pregnant, which was written by Shumer Julie Paiva. The premise follows a woman named Lainy, played by Amy Shumer, who fakes being pregnant in order to get all of the perks that come with expecting a baby.
The movie’s official synopsis reads:
“Jealous of her best friend’s pregnancy, Lainy wears a fake baby bump … and accidentally meets the man of her dreams.”
Joining the comedian in the cast are actresses and actors Jillian Bell, Will Forte, Damon Wayans Jr., Brianne Howey, Alex Moffat, Joel David Moore, Lizze Broadway, Urzila Carlson and Francis Benhamou. The trailer for the film was just released earlier today, and you can view it in the streaming giant’s post below:

What do you think? There’s definitely some potential with the cast, but the premise seems to be a bit odd – and potentially offensive – for some. Especially with one of the “big jokes” included in the trailer being Shumer falling directly on her fake baby bump.
Amy Shumer has actually become somewhat of a divisive figure in Hollywood in recent years. She burst onto the scene in the early 2010’s with projects like Inside Amy Shumer and her Comedy Central special Amy Shumer: Mostly Sex Stuff. However, as years have gone by, some have tired of her comedic stylings.
And as you’ll be able to see in some of the replies to the trailer for her upcoming movie, there’s a good portion of the population that’s not going to be tuning in to watch Kinda Pregnant on Netflix:
Already cringing

this is supposed to be a comedy?

Only Amy Schumer would think it’s funny to fake being pregnant. Gross. https://t.co/IUdq4bJh0k

Sounds like something I would never watch under any circumstances.

It’s like someone dug out a script from 2002, held no auditions, and nobody rehearsed.

This might be the single worst thing I have ever seen

This won’t even become a spectacle by public disgust. Like a cloud it will pass over us, gone, unobserved https://t.co/JvA6VECwtX

We can only hope…
