Shoot your shot.
Social media is a blessing and a curse. Has it connected us all like it was designed to? Yes and no. It might allow for you to stay in touch with that friend of yours from high school, but it also usually keeps you from talking to the person that’s right next to you at the coffee shop.
Despite making all of us phone zombies, the creation of social media redeems itself time and time again with moments like this one that played out ahead of the 2025 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl. The Ole Miss Rebels are set to take on the Duke Blue Devils, and Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin has been one of the many voices critical of the College Football Playoff Committee’s decision to leave out SEC schools.
To be honest, their decision has looked pretty good so far considering the team that was presumably right on the bubble – the Alabama Crimson Tide – got beat by the much less talented (yet scrappy) Michigan Wolverines.
One fan online asked Lane Kiffin to put his money where his mouth – and his family – is. The person with the social media name of “Sgt Blackout” shot this message over towards Lane Kiffin, proposing that if Ole Miss doesn’t cover the -17.5 spread against Duke, the random internet guy gets to take Kiffin’s daughter out to eat at the home of the Triple Dipper:
“Let’s make a bet Lane Kiffin. If you guys don’t cover -17.5 today, I get to take your daughter on a date to my local Chili’s.”
Let’s make a bet @Lane_Kiffin
If you guys don’t cover -17.5 today I get to take your daughter on a date to my local @Chilis

Obviously, that’s just an absurd offer from a random stranger on the internet.
Plus, what’s in it for Lane Kiffin? He and his team are supposed to win this game. You’re telling me that if they got upset, he’d also have to honor a take-my-daughter-to-Chili’s bet with someone he doesn’t know? No way Lane Kiffin would take that deal, and that’s why he responded with this:
“She isn’t a Chili’s girl.”
She isn’t a Chilis girl. 😂
— Lane Kiffin (@Lane_Kiffin) January 2, 2025
I could go on a rant for hours about someone “not being a Chili’s girl,” but I’ll save that for another time.
Sgt Blackout got shut down, but he wasn’t going to give up. Especially since he saw that Kiffin was willingly to stoop low enough to interact with him on social media. So he sent back a rebuttal, which excluded Lane’s daughter from the bet and included a beer-drinking-session with Kiffin instead:
“Fine, I’ll settle for you and me go there and talk transfer portal talent over some beers then.”
Fine , I’ll settle for you and me go there and talk transfer portal talent over some beers then

This is where the story really gets good.
Lane Kiffin’s 20 year old daughter, Landry (the one that the guy was looking to take on a Chili’s date), chimed in and backed up her father this time around. She replied to the second offer with a message that was awfully similar to how her football-coaching father responded:
“He isn’t a beer guy.”
He isn’t a beer guy

Objectively hilarious from Landry, but… Lane Kiffin isn’t a beer guy?
Even if that is true, Sgt Blackout was ready to once again showcase his sticktuitiveness. He implored Lane Kiffin (and his daughter) that one night at the bar with him could change Lane Kiffin’s mind:
“I can change that. Just one night is all I need.”
I can change that , just one night is all I need

He’s still talking about drinking beer with Lane Kiffin, right?
All in all, it seems like this social media user and the Kiffins were just having some fun online. It’s always great to see people interacting “for the meme,” and in this case, there was no one really acting as the butt of the joke. Though someone did manage to encapsulate the nonstop, opportunistic efforts of “Sgt Blackout” with a well-utilized quote:
