That’s going to hurt in the morning.
When you go out on the water – whether it be for recreation or if you are attempting to rip some lips – it’s easy to forget that fish can strike back. Not all species of fish can jump out of the water, but there are plenty that can, including bass, pike, and of course, flying fish.
And when you are riding with a wide open engine out on the water, a fish jumping out of the water can pack a hard punch. The kid in this viral video found that out the hard way.
This video is actually just a clip from a YouTube channel/TV series called “Outdoor Boys.” The father, Luke Nichols, and his wife Rebecca have three kids (Tommy, Nate and Jake) that they often will take on the adventures that fans flock to YouTube to watch every week. Luke has become incredibly popular for going on extreme solo trips in some of the harshest, remote places on the planet.
Though Nichols and his family also do plenty of trips into the wild together, like this four day trip that the they took to the swamps of Louisiana. While they were there, they went crabbing, fishing, spear fishing, frogging, catching and most importantly… cooking.
And unfortunately, one of Luke and Rebecca’s son’s – Tommy – got tail-whipped by a fish as they sped through the bayou. I can’t imagine how bad this impact must have felt, and the kid took it like a champ:

Yeah… I’d be crying in the bottom of the boat after a hit like that.
I’ve included that clip above because it’s gone viral online… and because some social media users left some pretty funny comments below the post. If you’ve never heard of the Outdoor Boys channel, and you’ve got some extra time, I’d recommend watching the full video I’ve included below. You can’t go wrong with their content.
But first, check out some of the funny commentary from the world of social media:

It certainly seemed like what the fish did was intentional.
Other than that fish slap, the Nichols family had quite the successful trip to Louisiana. The “Outdoor Boys” have really gotten the hang of content creation (their channel boasts over 12 million subscribers), and each of the videos post on there are just as entertaining as the last. And you know what they say…
A family that spears fish and battles swamp monsters together, stays together:
