Ending the year with new music.
Morgan Wallen dropped a surprise song last night called “Smile,” which he had previously teased some on social media and of course, fans were hoping to hear it in full as soon as possible. Well, they got their wish, though many were quick to point out how sad and kind of melancholy the song is in general.
From a production standpoint, it’s pretty simple compared to a lot of Morgan’s other music, and lyrically, it’s definitely deeper and more introspective than some of his most popular songs like “Cowgirls.”
Written by Morgan along with Rocky Block, John Byron, Ernest, Ryan Vojtesak and Luis Witkiewitz, it finds Morgan reflection on a relationship that was portrayed a certain way for the pictures than what it was really like in real life:
“It was good to see you smile
Girl you know it’s been a while
It was good to see you smile
Even if it was just for the picture.”
Morgan also released an accompanying music video, which finds him changing things up during a late night TV show appearance, which is hosted by a character plated by Barstool Sports personality Caleb Pressley. The talk show in the video is called Dark Til Daylight, which had a few fans wondering if that could be a hint at a possible album title.
Morgan has teased this year that he’s been working on a new project this year, so I wouldn’t be shocked if that is some sort of easter egg or something, maybe even another song title.
Additionally, fans seemed to appreciate Morgan pulling back the curtain some, so to speak, about the realities of the music industry and his life now as an incredibly famous musician:
“The ending shows me just how lonely the music industry can be. It’s hard to trust people and their intentions.”
‘The weight of being famous is something an average person will never understand.”
“Does anybody see the name of the show ‘Dark Til Daylight’ could this be the name of his next album? Morgan is just showing he is a real singer and he will find love again someday! It’s only Dark Til Daylight (when the sun comes up) Morgan is just in a dark place here lately but he will find the light! Morgan can we get one more right before it hits midnight for the new year?”
“Morgan doesn’t get enough credit for all these beautifully composed singles man.”
“The way my 2025 got better before it started!”
“I wasn’t prepared for this.”
“This honestly made me cry my eyes out and I’m at work lol. I love it, it’s real.”
Morgan Wallen does not miss.

morgan wallen’s new song is about someone watching someone they love lose themselves & their spark because of not leaving a relationship with them but seeing them lose the spark that made them the most themselves & what made them fall in love them in the first place brings guilt…

In terms of Morgan’s year as a whole, he recently wrapped up his record-breaking One Night At A Time Tour, in addition to being named Entertainer of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards (though he hasn’t acknowledged the award yet). He’s released a few singles in 2024 too, including “Lies Lies Lies” and “Love Somebody,” both of which topped the charts and added to his incredible catalog of 16 #1 hits so far. “I Had Some Help,” his duet with Post Malone, also became a massive hit and went #1 on multiple charts.
Morgan obviously had his troubles this year as well, with his arrest back in April for throwing a chair off the rooftop of Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s. But after originally being charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment, Morgan entered a plea earlier this month to two misdemeanor charges and was sentenced to two years of probation along with 7 days in a DUI education center.
Hopefully, he can find a little more balance in his personal life in 2025, and I’m sure, fans are hoping there’s a new album on the way too…
