Laying low and staying out of trouble… probably the best strategy for Morgan right now.
Today, Morgan Wallen jumped on his Instagram stories and gave fans a pretty rare update on what he’s been up to since his arrest in Nashville a few months ago. The country superstar was arrested back in April for throwing a chair off the rooftop of Eric Church’s downtown Nashville bar, Chief’s.
The chair reportedly landed near two police officers who were standing on the sidewalk below, and the country music superstar is currently facing three felony charges of reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor reckless endangerment. He’s due back in court in Nashville on August 15.
Morgan has also been out on the road for his first-ever headlining stadium tour, and on his Instagram stories today, he says he’s been “staying out of trouble” (with a bit of a smirk, alluding to the aforementioned arrest), working on new music and hanging out with his young son just enjoying the summer.
He also noted that he’s been in the studio working on new music, and is looking forward to the release of the already fan-favorite song “Lies Lies Lies” in a few weeks:
“What’s going on, everybody. I’ve been in the studio for the past couple days, and I was just thinking I haven’t been on here to let y’all know or give y’all an update in a long time, so here I am. I’ve really just been hanging with my kid, making music, golfing, swimming, but mostly just laying low and staying out of trouble.
I’m really excited for y’all to hear this new music, it sounds awesome. ‘Lies Lies Lies’ is coming out real soon, excited for that one and got plenty more in the pipeline. Looking forward to playing in Minneapolis this week.
The new song with [Moneybagg Yo] seems to be doing really well. We wrote that song, shoot, over two years ago probably and finally got the chance to put it out, so I’m glad to see that it’s still reacting, sounding fresh a couple years later. Everything’s all good, see y’all soon. Oh, and go Vols!”
Morgan is currently headlining stadiums across the country on his One Night At A Time world tour, which will head to Europe in August.
Additionally, “Lies Lies Lies” is due out everywhere on July 4th, and his song with Post Malone “I Had Some Help” just notched its fifth straight week at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
I personally love the acoustic version he did of “Lies Lies Lies” for his Abbey Road Studios Sessions last year and don’t think the studio cut will be able to top it:
