Zach Top does not miss, and when he is singing classic country covers, he turns heads from every corner of the internet. Top’s silky smooth twangs are just hard to beat. You have a match in heaven when you put those vocals to a Ronnie Milsap song and have Craig Campbell vocally supporting Top.
Recently, Zach Top, Craig Campbell, and Drew Baldridge were hanging out backstage before performing at the 94.7 QDR Acoustic Christmas concert and laid down pure country gold before taking the stage. Campbell is on the piano and fires up the introduction of Ronnie Milsap’s “Stranger Things Have Happened” right as Zach Top walks into the green room.
You can hear Top make a remark, immediately recognizing the hit 1990 song that Roger Murrah and Keith Stegall penned. Without missing a beat, the three men begin to harmonize as they deliver the words to the heartbreak ballad.
The song details a heartbroken man who has had strange encounters since his woman left him, and while he acknowledges that these moments are bizarre, he believes stranger things could still happen. He hoped that one of the “stranger” moments would be his woman returning to his life, removing this lonesome feeling.

Hearing Top and Campbell perform this song is one of those videos that stops you right in your tracks due to how incredible they sound. They effortlessly lay down harmonies like they’ve been performing this song for years, and it’s beyond captivating.
Given Campbell and Top both keep the sound of the classic country alive in their respective sounds, hearing them come together to cover (in my opinion) one of the most underrated songs from Milsap’s catalog is tickling my brain in the right way. After they finished singing a snippet of the song, folks in the green room began hooting and hollering at the magic they just watched unfold.
This video will live rent-free in my head, and after hearing this portion of the song, I need a studio recording of this duet. It would be flawless.

Ironically, this cover feels perfectly timed, as Zach Top shared with CMT that Ronnie Milsap has been one of his most played artists for the year, along with Merle Haggard.
