A viral hit we are HERE for.
Viral songs on TikTok are vital these days for country artists. Whether your label is trying to generate hype around a single before releasing it or you’re an up-and-comer trying to get your name out there, a viral video can change your life overnight in the musical space.
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok over the last few weeks, there’s a high chance that you might have stumbled upon a little song called “Doublewide.” On November 14th, Gabriella Rose uploaded a song she’d been workshopping to TikTok, highlighting the opening lyrics of the ditty.
“Here’s a ridiculous one I wrote called Double Wide. :)”
@gabriella.rose.music heres a ridiculous one i wrote called double wide :) #country#singersongwriter#fyp#foryou#acoustuc#countrymusic#nashville ♬ doublewide by gabriella rose – Gabriella Rose
To say this song went viral is an understatement; “Doublewide” became an overnight sensation and, at the time of writing, has gained over 40 MILLION views on TikTok.
Fans fell in love with Rose’s raw vocals and the tune’s witty yet gritty lyrics. I was instantly drawn to Rose’s vocals, as her raspy twang itched my brain just right. The placement of each vocal inflection throughout the song is perfect and complements the rugged cowboy lifestyle she details in the lyrics.
“I like good old-fashioned country music, something with a beat
I like a tall, lean man with Luccheses on his feet
I like the crackle of a bonfire under a big old mountain sky
I like my trailer like you like your women, ooh, doublewide…”
I put Betsy Rose over my bed frame, I put Jesus on my dash
Slap a T-bone steak on my Traeger, while singing to ‘The Man in Black’
I’ll put a bullet through an old beer can, in denim with a real nice fit
I like men like I like my country music, ooh, Big and Rich…”
Rose kept fans in the loop as she tried to finalize the tune and share it with them on streaming platforms after seeing the overwhelming demand for the entire song. Folks went feral in the comments, begging on their hands and knees for this tune to be dropped.
Gabriella Rose’s “Doublewide” is comparable to the virality of Oliver Anthony’s “Rich Men of North Richmond,” Radio WV video from last year.
Rose told fans she’d release “Doublewide” on November 27th, as it would be featured on her new EP Wait Til I Get My Money Up. However, she ran into a few issues, slowing the EP’s rollout onto streaming services and delaying its release to this week.
“These past two weeks have been life-changing; I can’t even begin to express how grateful I am and how excited I am for what’s to come. God is so good. The past couple years have been really hard to navigate, full of a lot of unexpected, and a lot of hard. But here we are!”
Since the single dropped, it’s gotten over half a million streams on Spotify. The song’s studio version keeps the same gritty and rugged feel as the viral teaser clip. Like Colter Wall, Rose’s vocals do not fit her outward appearance, and when she opens her mouth, her vocals sound like you’ve stepped back in time. Her vocals reflect her upbringing, as Rose notes she was raised on delta blues, gospel music, and classic ’50s and ’60s country ballads.
The acoustic-focused track is country to the core, with killer banjo riffs during the chorus and lightly sprinkled throughout the rest of the song.
The future of country music is in good hands if songwriters like Gabriella Rose keep delivering stone-cold tracks like “Doublewide.”
Fire it up.
