The Dallas Cowboys Opened The Roof For First Time In 2 Years… & A Large Piece Of Metal Fell On The Field

The Dallas Cowboys can’t catch a break (just like their receivers can’t catch a pass).

“America’s Team” has really been going through it as of late. After signing their two big stars – QB Dak Prescott and WR CeeDee Lamb – to massive contracts, their quarterback went out with a season-ending injury, and their star wide out can’t catch passes because he’s blinded by the sun bursting through ill-placed windows at AT&T Stadium.

No, seriously:

Just so you know, Cowboys owner/president/general manager Jerry Jones said the sun coming through the windows gives Dallas “home field advantage.” The video above doesn’t exactly hammer that idea home.

And now, it appears the fact that Jones is too stubborn to use the curtains that “Jerry World” already has in place isn’t even the worst flaw of AT&T Stadium. With the 3-6 Cowboys set to face off against the 6-4 Houston Texans on Monday Night Football, someone within Dallas’ organization decided that now would be as good a time as ever to open up the roof of their gigantic 80,000 person capacity stadium.

AT&T Stadium just posted this around an hour ago, showcasing that the roof was open for the first time in over two years:

File that under the “posts that precede unfortunate events” category.

There are a number of modern day NFL stadiums that boast retractable roofs, and AT&T Stadium is one of them. But what apparently sets the home of the Dallas Cowboys apart is that their roof is evidently prone to falling apart at the worst time – much like the team that plays on the gridiron within the arena.

Reporters and media members that were already inside the stadium ahead of the game tonight witnessed the large piece of metal that fell down shortly after the stadium’s roof opened up. According to Jeff Kolb of FOX4, the falling object nearly struck a group of production people when it landed on the field.

Not exactly what sports fans mean when they say “bring the house down.”

As you might imagine, once the sizable piece of sheet metal fell from the heavens and down onto the football field, the Dallas Cowboys suddenly had a change of heart. They quickly closed the roof back up, and I’m guessing they are now keeping their fingers crossed that no more metal falls once, you know, the game they are hosting starts up.

I know I’m joking about this incident a lot, but just look at this chunk of roof that fell over 300 feet down to the ground. The Cowboys are incredibly fortunate that no one was hurt when it came crashing down, and the situation could have been much worse if the sheet metal would have waited to fall when it was game time:

Long story short, the Cowboys can’t even try to utilize some of the features of their own stadium without nearly creating a full-blown disaster. Though the roof might be closed now ahead of the Monday Night Football matchup, the floodgate of memes and commentary making fun of the Dallas Cowboys is very much open:

Should NFL Fans expect the first ever roof delay tonight? I guess we’ll find out sooner rather than later…
