Jake Kohn is a name country music fans need to keep an eye on.
He may still be a teenager, but ever since he signed with Atlantic Records last year and began releasing more music, Kohn has been on an undeniably impressive trajectory. Initially gaining some recognition with a semi-viral live recording of his hit “Frostbite” on RadioWV’s YouTube channel in March 2023, Kohn has since landed opening roles supporting some of the genre’s biggest names on the road, and the original music he has released has proven that he is wise beyond his years as lyricist.
“Frostbite” was the first single Kohn released to streaming platforms nearly a year ago today, on November 17, 2023, and he hasn’t looked back since. “Hard As Stone” came a couple weeks later, and now after three more singles, and following his collaboration with Wyatt Flores this summer, Kohn is back with yet another tune to add to his catalog.
Titled “Lorraine,” the brand new tune features a full band sound, one of the first recordings that gives us insight into Kohn’s sound beyond his typical acoustic endeavors. With his uniquely raspy vocals carrying as much power as ever, Kohn’s vocal delivery makes you feel every word he sings, even if it’s his imagination speaking, for the most part, as opposed to his experiences as a teenager.
Check out Jake Kohn’s latest single “Lorraine” for yourself.
No matter how you look at it, Kohn is an insane talent, and he’s only going to get better as he continues to experience the world and hone his craft as songwriter. Hailing from the unassuming country music hotbed of Winchester, VA, where great acts like Low Water Bridge Band and Brennan Edwards, among others, foster a community for younger guys like Kohn to develop as musicians, Kohn has all of the right people in his corner, and I can’t wait to see where his career takes him.
