New version, same great song.
Today, Cody Jinks released a duet of his song “Same Kind of Crazy As Me” with Ward Davis, who was his co-writer on the original song, along with Greg Jones.
Of course, the original version was recorded by Jinks solo and included on his 10th studio album The Wanting in 2019. But on the heels of putting out the re-release of Jinks’ classic 2012 album 30 in a project called Backside of 30, Jinks says this one feels more like the original demo they recorded and he loves it that way:
“I’m glad we finally put out the version that probably sounds more like the hotel room version. I love this version.”
Ward gave a little bit of insight as to how they came up with the idea for the song in the first place:
“Well, same kind of crazy is what it is. Me, Cody and Greg Jones were in a bar and I said ‘You MFers know why I love y’all so much? Cause y’all the same kind of crazy as me.’
The next morning, in a hotel in Nashville, with hangovers and regrets to spare, we wrote ‘Same Kind of Crazy As Me.’ Cody had a hit with it a few years back, and for as much as it’s his song, it’s ours, and I’m tickled as shit we got to cut it together.”
They obviously make a great pair, and it’s fun to see them team up to reimagine a classic Jinks song that fans have loved for years now.
