James Tucker has done it again, folks.

While there isn’t a ton of music in his catalog, the Greenville, South Carolina, based singer and songwriter reminds the country music world with each release why he is one of the genre’s most underrated. And his latest single is no exception.

Titled “Parts of Me,” Tucker’s newest track is cleverly written and perhaps relatable to many of his listeners as the narrator equivocates over a handful of his perceived shortcomings, ruling out family as the root, and ultimately deciding they are the only ones to blame.

As is always the case with his music, Tucker’s exceptional vocals shine throughout the song, bolstered by a twangy, driving backbeat that’ll have you tapping your feet in no time.

Originally hailing from Yadkin County, North Carolina, Tucker, a military veteran who now calls Upstate South Carolina home, is a talented songwriter with stop-you-in-your-tracks vocals that are up there with the best of them in the business. With only eleven original songs released thus far, Tucker’s catalog is short but potent, and each track serves as further proof as to why he needs to be on every country music fan’s radar.

Tucker’s released his debut single “Man I Am” in 2019, and slowly but surely expanded his catalog over the years since. In the midst of perhaps his biggest year to date, as far as releasing music goes at least, Tucker’ started 2024 off hot with the release of “October” this past March, and followed that up with his four track must-listen OurVinyl Sessions EP in May.

And more recently, he teamed up with fellow Greenville act Brother Oliver to feature on their track “Outside Looking In.”

If you aren’t familiar with Tucker’s catalog, here are a few of my favorites, both old and new, to get you started.

“October”

“Man I Am”

“Stay Home Tonight”

James Tucker has an uncanny ability to evoke emotion through his lyricism and passionate vocal delivery, and I think I can speak for everyone in saying that I hope he keeps up his recent pace with the new music.

With a newborn baby at home and a busy touring schedule, though, I’d understand if it’s a while before we get new music. But whenever we do, we know it’ll be good.

In the meantime, get out there and catch James Tucker live if you can. He plays across the Carolinas pretty frequently, and he’s gearing up to go out on a run of shows with Dylan Gossett later this month.
