The Nashville man missing a portion of his head briefly sat down with Nashville’s News Channel 5 to talk about his current situation.
An individual in the Downtown Nashville area recently had the internet perplexed and buzzing about his health. Various people on social media claimed to have seen a man walking around without half of his head, and a Reddit board was incredibly active as many witnesses to the severely injured man gave their version of the story.
Several people on the subreddit dedicated to Nashville claimed that they had seen and interacted with the man, with many confirming that they have called 911 for help and others saying that they offered assistance and the man declined. Others online stated that he’s been out walking around with his open head wound for years – with some reporting seeing him as far back as 2021, though that now seems to be debunked.
And now, after a lot of speculation, we’re getting somewhat of a clearer picture of how the man was injured and where he is now thanks to Nashville’s News Channel 5. As they explained, they kept getting reports and pictures from concerned citizens in the Nashville area. So journalist Nick Beres and an unnamed good Samaritan tracked the injured man down and decided to help him out in any way they could.
39-year-old Jonathan Johnson – a homeless man – is who Nashville residents have been showing concern for. Once he was tracked down by a good Samaritan (who wishes to remain anonymous) and Channel 5’s Nick Beres, he answered some questions about his current situation and his head wound. The Nashville journalist first asked if his open head wound caused him any pain, to which Johnson replied:
“No it does not.”
There’s still some confusion as to why Johnson’s head wound is exposed in the first place. Many reports have just claimed that Johnson had the metal plate removed from his head, and before doctor’s could replace it, the 39-year-old left the hospital. That would lead some to think that the homeless man didn’t want his gruesome injury fixed, but he stated in the interview that he’s not opposed to receiving treatment:
“It’s not that I don’t want help. I do want help. Very few people have tried to help me.”
Fortunately, there were enough people that did want to help Johnson, which led to him being taken to the Tri Star Summit Medical Center for an evaluation. It was there where he had his wound cleaned, and was then released by the hospital staff with the obvious next step being to close the wound. Johnson said he would be on board for another surgery to close it:
“Yes I do… If I have to go through another surgery to get the metal plate put back so skin can go over it, I’d be glad to.”
Johnson is now staying in a group home thank to some help from Councilman Jordan Huffman, who is a Vice Chair on the Public Health and Safety Committee and a member of Nashville’s Homelessness Planning Council. The 39-year-old now has a roof over his head, and says he is happy to be off the streets, and thankful for those who reached out with concern and got him the help he needed.
