Mammoth Cave National Park understood the assignment.
Located in south-central Kentucky, the longest cave system in the world draws in a ton of tourists every single year. But that doesn’t mean that those people necessarily enjoy their visit, according to some of the reviews of the national park.
If you were to go search out what people have said about their trip to Mammoth Cave, some don’t have a lot of nice things to say. And instead of trying to bury those reviews as deep as possible, the Kentucky national park is embracing them – and even using them in promotional messaging.
This post from Mammoth Cave’s official page is going viral, where they leaned into some of the bad things that people have had to say about their national park experience:
“Come experience what has disappointed millions of people for over 225 years! Mammoth Cave National Park recently rated as one of the ‘most disappointing U.S. tourist attractions!” While we think the world’s longest cave system and over 4,000 years of human history is AMAZING, others find that the cave is “very dark” and there is “nothing cool” here to see.”
That’s hilarious… and they didn’t stop there. Mammoth Cave continued the spin job with more “drawbacks” about their 52,000 acre park, which in reality are just things that people should expect when visiting a natural landmark:
“If you would like to experience the disappointment of Mammoth Cave, visit our website and choose from one of our many activities that will leave you unfulfilled! You can be disappointed by a ‘dry hole with very few stalagmites and stalactites.’
Or discover nothing ‘other than trees’ on over 80 plus miles of hiking, biking, horseback riding, and water trails. (Fair warning – there are bugs in the outdoors, cellular phone service is spotty, and there are stairs on some of our cave tours.) A world of regret awaits you at Mammoth Cave!”

You gotta love when a national park has a sense of humor, and Mammoth Cave without a doubt laid out how to handle silly criticism from tourists.
