She’s gearing up to release her new album Whirlwind tonight at midnight, and she’s been sharing a few teasers on social media of songs we haven’t heard yet.
And honestly, I can already tell they’re going to be some of my favorites.
Yesterday, she shared a great, sassy tune called “Ring Finger,” and today, she slowed it down a bit and shared a sad breakup tune called “Devil Don’t Go There,” which finds her reflecting on the unbearable pain of heartbreak.
I love the creative imagery throughout the song, and especially the line about how her ex’s words “burned like a Marlboro Red”:
“I’ll never forget them words you said,

I know the difference ‘tween wrong and right,

Even the devil don’t go there,

Written by Lainey with Abram Dean, Lance Miller and Joe Fox, I love the unique concept and play on words, and the depth of the subject matter and getting a peak at the more somber, heavier part of who Lainey is as an artist.
