Didn’t get the teleprompter updated in time apparently…
Democrats are gathered in Chicago for their convention to formally nominate Kamala Harris for president of the United States. And Maren Morris was on hand tonight to perform.
It’s not really surprising, given that Maren’s one of the more outspoken country artists on the left. But apparently Cory Booker was still surprised while he was introducing her.
The Senator from New Jersey is serving as emcee for the DNC, and gave an enthusiastic introduction for her performance – but it didn’t sound like it was actually meant for Maren.
At one point Booker joked that the crowd may have the “wrongful impression” that he was about to “sing with this man.” (Maren is, of course, a woman).
And he also heaped praise on the performer that…well, let’s just say it sounds like it was better suited for somebody else:
“Tonight we are blessed by one of those great American artists that helps us to cleanse our spirits, to raise our hearts, and to bring in that joy.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you one of the true greats in America. Someone to bring the joy to this incredible arena.
Maren Morris.”
Even Booker looked surprised when her name popped up on the teleprompter, and after an enthusiastic introduction that had the crowd pumped up, Maren proceeded to sing her ballad “Better Than We Found It,” which didn’t exactly match the energy of Booker’s intro.
And viewers believe that’s because the intro was originally written for somebody else before a last minute schedule change.
Stevie Wonder is scheduled to perform at the DNC tonight as well, and many people think the Booker intro was supposed to be for the (actual) legend:

I am about 98% certain Cory Booker was just introducing Stevie Wonder, who was originally supposed to be in this spot in the schedule, and then had to pivot to Maren Morris.

Cory Booker is such a corndog, his introduction of the musical guest was so effusive and so full of iconiconicon that for a moment I wondered if he had resurrected
