Is This Throw By Cubs’ Shortstop Dansby Swanson The Worst In MLB History?

The Swanson family had quite a moment last week but today is one Dansby is going to want to forget.

Mallory Swanson was the hero for the US Women’s Soccer team in the Olympic Gold Medal match against Brazil, scoring the only goal of the game in the 57th minute, securing the fifth Gold in US Women’s Soccer history and giving us an all-time moment that will not soon be forgotten.

But while she was making United States history, her husband, the aforementioned Dansby, was collecting the 1,000th hit of his 9 year MLB career, making it quite the banner day for the Swanson family (although somebody screwed up the graphic and put Sophia Smith’s picture in Mallory’s place).

Well, today the internet is yet again getting its fill of the Swanson family, although this time it’s for something that went wrong for ole Dansby on the diamond.

In the top of the 4th inning of today’s Cubs vs Blue Jays game, Ernie Clement stepped to the plate and hit a soft grounder to short. Dansby charged and tried to make a play on it, but he never got a good grip on it and wound up soaring the ball behind the runner, nearly into the Blue Jay’s dugout. Quite honestly, it was one of the worst throws we’ve seen in some time.

Take a look for yourself:

One run scored on the mishap, which was ruled an infield hit (somehow) and brought the score to 2-1, Cubbies.

All in all, it wound up not costing Chicago, who won 6-5 in extras, but man, the internet commentary is not great.

Everyone makes mistakes and I guess we’re just fortunate to not have HD cameras documenting our every move.

Shake it off kid, you’ll get’em next time.
