What a time to be alive.
Election season is heating up, which means a couple of things for social media: People are even more insufferable than they usually are, and the memes are hilarious.
Of course this has been far from a “normal” election cycle already, with former President Donald Trump surviving an assassination attempt at a rally earlier this month, then just a week later President Joe Biden announcing that he was dropping out of the race and endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democrat nominee.
And we still have almost 4 months left before the actual election.
It’s going to be an exhausting election cycle, but there’s still going to be some great jokes that come out of it – and we’ve already gotten an instant classic from Elon Musk.
The CEO of X (formerly Twitter), along with companies like SpaceX and Tesla, is pretty active on his own social media platform, and also doesn’t really hold back, no matter who he’s interacting with.
So when California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized his website, Elon shot back with a hilarious response.
It all started when a video began going around featuring an AI-generated Kamala Harris voiceover, claiming that she was the nominee “because Joe Biden finally exposed his senility at the debate,” and that she was the “ultimate diversity hire” who doesn’t “know the first thing about running the country.”
Apparently Elon (who’s been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump this time around) got a kick out of the video, and reposted it from his own account:
But California Governor Gavin Newsom (who was mentioned as a possible VP candidate for Harris but seems to have been left off her shortlist in recent days) didn’t find it amusing, and posted a screenshot of an article on Elon’s retweet, saying that he would be signing a bill banning ads featuring manipulated voices like the one reposted by the Twitter CEO.
Manipulating a voice in an “ad” like this one should be illegal.

Well Musk didn’t seem to worry too much about Newsom’s threat, and fired back at the governor – with a “Deez Nuts” joke:

Wild times that we’re living in, when one of the richest men in the world is making “Deez Nuts” jokes to a sitting governor.
