Hardy Teams Up With Red Hot Chili Peppers Drummer Chad Smith For “Good Girl Phase”

Hardy country music

Full rock.

Today, HARDY released his first fully rock album QUIT!!, which is of course the follow up to last year’s the mockingbird & THE CROW, a half country, half rock album.

And if you’re not overly familiar with Hardy’s original music, then I’m sure you’ve heard some of his radio hits like Morgan Wallen’s “Up Down,” “Sand in My Boots,” “More Than My Hometown” and more, as well as Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country.”

But he’s obviously leaning fully into the harder edge of his musical taste at this point in his career, and personally, I enjoy a lot of the hard rock, even metal and grunge, influence in a lot of his more recent releases, though I do understand why a lot of country fans and purists don’t and that’s just fine too.

It’s definitely not for everyone, but I can’t help but be transported back to some of the music I loved in middle school in the 2000’s, and obviously the great rock music from the 80’s and 90’s too, that has a similar sound and feel to what Hardy’s doing right now (with a country twist, of course).

And one of my early favorites from Quit!! is called “GOOD GIRL PHASE,” which was written by Hardy along with David Garcia and Hunter Phelps. It also features legendary Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, which is cool.

Hardy actually played the song at a show I saw a few weeks ago, and I immediately loved it and have been waiting to hear the full studio version on this album. It’s pretty simple in terms of the concept, which finds Hardy telling his friend that this girl is basically playing him and isn’t really the “good girl” she’s portraying, and it’s just a phase not who she actually is.

On the flip side, at least in the world of more recent music releases, I haven’t heard a song quite like this before, and there’s just something so fun and endearing about it, along with the catchy melody and beat, that I can’t get enough of.

I already know I’ll be wearing the repeat button out on this one… check it out:
