Colby Acuff has been on a tear lately, and he shows no signs of letting up.

Having released an album each year since 2020, including last year’s incredible project Western White Pines, Colby Acuff is keeping the one-record-a-year momentum going with the recent announcement of his forthcoming album American Son. And today, he released “How Do I Feel Alive,” the fifth single thus far off of the record.

With the sister trio of The Castellows lending their angelic harmonies to the track, “How Do I Feel Alive” continues with the album’s theme of addressing mental health, as the narrator grapples with notion of becoming numb to emotion, and even the subsequent desire to resort to alcohol or other vices just to feel something.

Proudly hailing from Idaho but now calling Nashville home, Acuff has made a name for himself relatively quickly as an incredibly thoughtful, introspective, and relatable songwriter who has an uncanny ability to evoke emotion through his lyricism. His latest track “How Do I Feel Alive” is no exception.

Give it a listen for yourself here.

An album that Acuff has poured his heart into and dedicated to his late father Pat Acuff who passed away this past February, American Son is set to be released on August 23 and features 16 new songs.

When he officially announced the record a few weeks back, Acuff provided a succinct description of the impetus for this project.

“The entire purpose of this project was to make something that could truly make an impact. After going through personal trials and hardships over the last year I decided that I couldn’t be the only one facing these issues. So I hope this album and these songs find you when you most need them.”

Colby Acuff is just one of those guys you can’t help but root for.
