Roping for a cause.

While it was bull riding that initially got Cody Johnson into rodeo, he’s been obsessed with team roping since 2020 so it makes sense that he just announced his first ever team roping event happening this October.

We’ve seen a few videos of his roping skills and reported on his qualification for the World Series of Team Roping earlier this year, but before he competes with the big dogs in Las Vegas this December, he’ll be throwing down at the COJO Open to raise money for the Different Day Foundation.

Taking place October 15th through 19th at Cadence Bank Center Arena in Belton, Texas, the event will feature multiple rounds of roping, a Celebrity Pro-Am, a golf tournament, and a champagne bus to “take ladies shopping” while the fellas are on the golf course.

All of this will support the Different Day Foundation, which was created by Cody and his wife Brandi to provide housing, healthcare, and employment to women victims of sex trafficking.

In a press release, Cody said:

“Team roping has all but consumed my life since 2020, and roping is what I do to get away from the smoke and lights. When I’m out there horseback with a rope in my hand, I just get to be who I am at the core, and that’s a cowboy. I plan to participate in every roping event and I will even play golf.

I want this roping to not only grow into a life-changing event that pays ropers a pile of money and prizes, but also generates enough for charity that we change people’s lives who don’t know a steer’s head from his tail. It’s very important to me to give back, and putting on this roping keeps me very connected with my love of the game…

My goal is to build the biggest roping event in the United States. When I step out on stage, I don’t want to just play a show. I want it to be the best show you’ve ever seen. I want this roping to be the same way. This hat is real, this buckle is real, this music is real and this roping will be real, too.”

Tickets are on sale now at cojoteamroping.com and are moving quickly, so if you’re in the area or want to make a trip, I suggest you get them now before they’re sold out.

We’ve always known Cody Johnson to be a legit cowboy and an all-around good person and putting on this event, and not taking a penny from it, prove that all the more.
