Cody Johnson Wins World Series Of Team Roping Qualifier, Punches Ticket To Finale

Looks like Cody Johnson hasn’t quite given up on all his rodeo dreams.

While he once wanted nothing more than to be a professional bull rider, a slew of injuries forced an early retirement from one of the harshest sports on the planet which lead CoJo to reconsider his future. Fortunately for us all, he was quite the singer and performer and has gone on to become a full-fledged country music superstar in his own right, although the sting of not being able to pull off his rodeo dreams has stayed with him.

But even though he’s not hopping on the back of bulls these days, he’s stayed involved in the sport and just the other day, competed in a World Series of Team Roping qualifier event in Hamilton, Texas with partner Ricky Oliver and wound up taking first prize.

With CoJo on the head side and Oliver on the back, the duo roped three head in a combined time of 26.53, over 2 seconds faster than the second place team, which secured them a $13,700 purse and an invitation to participate in the World Series of Team Roping Finale held Las Vegas this December.

Pretty dang impressive for not pursuing it full time.

As of now he doesn’t have any tour dates scheduled for December 7-15th, so fingers crossed he decides to go and test his skills against the best in the world.

If you want to see CoJo on The Leather Tour, check out Vivid Seats, where you get a free ticket for every 10 you buy. He’s got dates just about everywhere so get them now before they’re sold out, and trust me, a CoJo show is worth every penny…

Cue “Dear Rodeo”
