A new one from the boys of 49 Winchester.
We are less than a month away from 49 Winchester’s forthcoming album, Leavin’ This Holler, and I don’t know about y’all, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that July flies by because I need August 2nd here immediately. The Castlewood, Virginia, band has given fans a preview of the album with three stellar singles, “Yearnin’ For You,” “Fast Asleep,” and “Tulsa.”
Thus far, this sneak peek at what is in store expands upon their genre-bending sound. They keep their gritty Appalachian country roots but intertwine new elements, including a Czech National Symphony Orchestra feature on “Fast Asleep.”
And if you don’t know what to call their sound, have no fear; lead singer Isaac Gibson laid it out flawlessly in a recent Whiskey Riff Raff episode.
Last night, they gave the crowd at the Grand Ole Opry an unreleased preview of their title track off the record, “Leavin’ This Holler.”
The song that named the album highlights the feeling of needing a change. The universe will show you so many signs when it’s time to change your scenery, leading you to “Leavin’ This Holler.” The slow heartbreak ballad is filled with soul, as Gibson’s melancholy lyrics describe what has led him to this decision.
“So I’m leavin’ this holler
Leavin’ the heartache
And I’m leavin’ the way things
Used to be
I will not be returning
My spirit is still yearnin’ for
A chance at being happy…”
The audience at the Grand Ole Opry’s ears were blessed with this one last night. I can tell it will be a fan favorite upon the album’s release, especially among fans who love sad country songs. If the live version of “Leavin’ This Holler” sounds like this, I can’t wait to hear the studio cut of the track.
Check it out.
