So college athletic departments have their own movie studios now?
It’s truly crazy to think about how much money circulates around college athletics, and until a few years ago, the athletes that were out there generating the revenue saw none of it. Zero. Nada. Zilch.
Then we got into the era of NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) and college sports basically became the financial Wild West. I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on to this day, but schools are definitely taking advantages of being able to lure in prospective students with all kinds of inordinate amounts of cash offerings.
With that being said, social media is still vastly important in the current landscape of college sports. That’s why the University of Louisville – no longer led by the greatest threat to world peace in Kenny Payne – put out this promotional video over the weekend.
We’ve all heard of the transfer portal, right? Well, I can virtually guarantee that you haven’t seen the transfer portal like this. Louisville took their new head coach Pat Kelsey and stuck him in the leading role of a Transfer Portal short film. They also called upon some of their great former players, like Peyton Siva and Luke Hancock, to star in the video.
Was it necessary? Is it good? Should Pat Kelsey and other coaches across the country be subjected to this kind of stuff? Those questions are for you to decide as you press play on “Operation ReviVILLE” below:

Regardless of if you think it’s cringey or cinematic, you’ve got to admit that they really knocked it out of the park from a visual effects and editing perspective.
It’s an interesting video nonetheless, and UK fans some college sports fans weren’t really sure how to take it:
I can’t believe this is real

On the flip side of the coin, fans of the University of Louisville were happy to just see something positive in regards to their program.
After a tumultuous couple of years (shoutout to Kenny Payne), Cardinal faithful are just dying for a win – no matter how big or small:
It’s so corny but I love it
