The “Family Ties Trilogy” is now out in its entirety.
Charles Wesley Godwin set out to link three of his most recent songs (included in the Family Ties album) in a three-part short film, and he somehow managed to bring even more life to a trio of songs that already had incredible heart.
After teasing the fans about the project, Godwin gave them more details about what they could expect during the three-part series, which is now out in full:
“Excited to share something we’ve been working on for the last few months: The Family Ties Trilogy is a music video project and short film that follows the journey of a single family across three decades, narrated by three songs from Family Ties.
‘Miner Imperfections,’ ‘Another Leaf,’ and ‘Dance in Rain’ tell the story of a couple navigating life and building a family during The Great Depression, through World War II, and into the ‘Golden Era’ of the 1950s. Shoutout to Justin Clough and everyone involved. This is a very meaningful project to me and I can’t wait to share it with you over the coming weeks.”
Part one focused around “Miner Imperfections,” and the story followed a young couple just getting started out in life. Part two, built around “Another Leaf,” shows the young couple growing their family as the man of the household is sent off to war. And part three, released today in a long-form version of the short film (all three parts are together), hones in on CWG’s emotional “Dance in Rain.”
“The full 15-minute Family Ties Trilogy short film, featuring ‘Miner Imperfections,’ ‘Another Leaf,’ and ‘Dance in Rain’ is out now! This was an ambitious project, to say the least, and I’m very proud of how it turned out. At their best, songs tell a story and I think we accomplished that here. Hope you enjoy.”

The third chapter shows the family the story has centered around throughout the short film on the “train of life,” so to speak. Years pass and time only speeds up. Their son joins the armed forces to follow in his father’s footsteps, and their daughter gets accepted into college. For those parents out there, the entire short film – especially the third portion – just might get the waterworks going.
