The second installment of the Family Ties Trilogy.
Charles Wesley Godwin, already a masterful songwriter through his lyrics, is amping it up a notch with a short film series highlighting three tracks from his critically acclaimed album Family Ties.
After teasing the fans about the project, Godwin gave them more details about what they could expect during the three-part series:
“Excited to share something we’ve been working on for the last few months: The Family Ties Trilogy is a music video project and short film that follows the journey of a single family across three decades, narrated by three songs from Family Ties.
‘Miner Imperfections,’ ‘Another Leaf,’ and ‘Dance in Rain’ tell the story of a couple navigating life and building a family during The Great Depression, through World War II, and into the ‘Golden Era’ of the 1950s. Shoutout to Justin Clough and everyone involved. This is a very meaningful project to me and I can’t wait to share it with you over the coming weeks.”
Last week, CWG released part one of the project highlighting the track “Minor Imperfections.” Today, fans can view part two featuring “Another Leaf.”
Let us catch you up if you have not yet watched part one. Set in 1931, the story features a miner who is in the thick of an addiction to alcohol while starting a family with his bride. After his wife expressed how much his addiction was hurting her and their soon-to-be baby, the man did some soul-searching and turned his life around. The footage also highlights how fulfilled he is once they welcome their baby into the world and how happy the couple is. Part one ends with the year being 1940, and the couple tells their son they will have another baby.
“Another Leaf” is the perfect song to pick up chapter two with, as they are adding another leaf to their family tree, welcoming a baby girl in 1941. The music pauses as World War II calls all men to be drafted into the war against Japan, perfectly lining up with the lyrics:
“I miss you, I’m sorryI’ll make it back soonTell the babies I love ’emOne day, some dayWhen I pull down the driveI’ll never turn backAlways be by your side…”
The visual storytelling, accompanied by individually selected songs from Family Ties, creates a stellar cinematic experience. The final part of the series is set to release on June 26th, featuring “Dance in Rain,” fans can then watch the film all the way through in one long-form video.
