The Johnny Blue Skies era is upon us.
Sturgill Simpson recently announced one of the most highly-anticipated tours of 2024 in conjunction with his upcoming album Passage du Desir, the first album under his Johnny Blue Skies moniker. Make no mistake, this is still Sturgill Simpson and the boys, and their live show will also feature Sturgill Simpson classics. But for those of us that thought Stu might be hanging it up for good (or at least a long time) following some serious vocal cord issues, the announcement was Christmas in June.
And now, Stu has added more dates to his Why Not? Tour, which kicks off in August in San Francisco and will run through the fall, wrapping up in Boston in November.
The tour marks the first time that Stu and his band — Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keys), Laur Joamets (guitar) and Miles Miller (drums) — have hit the road in over 4 years. The new album, produced by Johnny Blue Skies and David Ferguson and recorded at Clement House Recording Studio in Nashville, as well as Abbey Road Studios in London, England, is set for release on July 12th.
Get excited, people.
