From the Smoky Mountains all the way to Broadway.
Today, Dolly Parton officially announced that she’s working on a musical about her life and career called Hello, I’m Dolly!, which is being produced for the Broadway stage.
It will have original music and arrangements, and I’m sure will be a massive production full of big hair, rhinestones and classic country music.
There is exact date for when the musical will start, but Dolly confirmed on Instagram this morning that it is currently being developed and is in progress specifically for Broadway. Hopefully, it will be up and running sometime in 2025:
“Hello, I’m Dolly! I’ve been writing my life story as a Broadway musical for several years and I’m proud to announce we are finally developing ‘Hello, I’m Dolly – An Original Musical’ for the Broadway stage. Head to my story for more information.”
While they haven’t announced too many details quite yet, Dolly had previously touched on the idea of doing a musical as she’s been writing it for years, though at the time, it wasn’t officially in production for Broadway, telling USA Today:
“We’re hoping to have it onstage in 2025. I’ve been working on it forever. It’s not a jukebox musical, it’s a true story. It’s a big production and a lot of original songs.
Of course it will have the hit songs and the stories leading up to those things. I had at one time planned to do a biopic but then everybody was doing one so I thought nah, I’m going Broadway. So I’m hoping we make it.”
Somehow, I feel like this will be an even bigger, more glamorous version of Dolly’s life than the one we’ve seen and heard about through her timeless music throughout the years.
Getting on Broadway is of course massive accomplishment, especially writing and producing the show yourself, so I can only imagine what this means to Dolly both personally and professionally. No casting announcement have been made yet, but playing Dolly Parton in her own musical on Broadway? A dream roll for anyone…
She did say she was holding a casting contest to find the perfect Dolly, so stay tuned for more because I know this will be a one-of-a-kind production that is a dream come true for the country icon.
