Nolan Taylor is proving to be prolific in his releases, but there’s no sacrificing quality for quantity, that’s for sure.
An introspective lyricist with unassumingly potent vocals and a propensity for brutally honest song content that puts his own personal struggles and experiences on full display, Taylor is an incredibly endearing up and comer whose authenticity and likable personality shine through in each of his songs. There is something special, and at times powerful, in Taylor’s delivery of these tragic tales, particularly when he does so in a stripped-back, intimate manner as done in his latest release.
Titled Live From the Living Room, Taylor’s latest four track EP features a new rendition of his quintessential track “68,” alongside “Double Life, “Wicked Ways,” and a brand new track titled “If You Would’ve Told Me.” Joined by Tommy Culley on keys, the emotion with which Taylor writes his music is raw, and it’s even palpable in these impromptu recordings. Well, it’s safe to say Nolan Taylor has done it again.
Listening to these songs is great, but nothing beats hearing them live. I saw Taylor play recently, and I can’t recommend it enough. Keep an eye on his tour dates, and if he’s coming to a city near you, you’re not going to want to miss it. You might even here he and his talented band cover Colby Callait’s “Bubbly” or “Shakedown Street” by the Grateful Dead, if you’re lucky.
