A Wild Coyote Sprinted Onto The Track During NASCAR Xfinity Series Race In Portland

This coyote was more like the Road Runner in causing a temporary disruption to the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ Pacific Office Automation 147. That race name doesn’t quite roll off the tongue like, say, the Daytona 500, does it? Anyway, Portland International Raceway got a rare glimpse at wildlife roaming free and onto the track.

Stock car racing pun intended: Our little ‘yote had some serious wheels!

What poor luck for the canine. It’s one thing to wander into, say, freeway traffic. That’s incredibly dangerous, with a speed limit of 70 mph that most drivers tend to go at least a little bit above. In this instance, while it wasn’t Formula 1 or NASCAR’s top circuit, qualifying in Portland saw pole winner Sam Mayer reach a top speed of over 96 mph. For the coyote to somehow avoid any collision despite spending some tense seconds in the middle of the track is a minor miracle, considering the odds of roaming onto a high-speed racetrack to begin with.

Shane van Gisbergen wound up prevailing after starting in second position, but the real winner is the ‘yote who survived this unexpected detour into society.

How’s this for an odd coincidence, though? Some fan who’s upset about Warner Bros. Discovery not releasing the completed Coyote vs. Acme movie was holding up a sign in protest, only to see an actual coyote interrupt the proceedings later on.

Did the fan actually low-key bring the Coyote to the venue? It’s a long shot, but stranger things have happened in this odd world.

No word on what happened to the coyote. I’d like to think the dazzling, speedy creature just darted back out into the wild and didn’t dwell too much on the bizarre change in its typical scenery. Also, seriously David Zaslav, #ReleaseCoyoteVsAcme. AND Batgirl! Still don’t know how you shelve a Bat-verse project with Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and J.K. Simmons, Michael Keaton’s Batman, and a titular rising star like Leslie Grace on account of a tax write-off.
