Today, Rob Leines announced his third studio album HEADCASE, which is due out everywhere on June 14th.
The Georgia native has put out two other albums, Bad Seed (2018) and Blood Sweat and Beers (2021), and I would describe his sound as having the swagger of Mike and the Moonpies, but the energy of Whiskey Myers, who he has opened for in the past.
Known for his songwriting ability and incredible guitar play skills, Leines is a name to watch and brought in co-producers Mike Harmeier (frontman of Silverada, formerly known as Mike and the Moonpies) and Adam Odor to help capture the spirit of his live shows while still showcasing his aforementioned storytelling prowess.
They recorded HEADCASE in Wimberly, Texas, during breaks in between shows, and came out of the studio with a 10-song project that Leines describes as “rock n’ roll with a cowboy hat”:
“After putting in all those hours and all those miles, we became really confident with our ability to put on a rock show. That’s what this music is: it’s rock n’ roll with a cowboy hat.
We toured for three months before we started tracking, and we went straight from a gig into the studio. It meant our chops were sharp, and everything felt familiar.”
Upon releasing his Blood Sweat and Beers album, Leines quite his job as a welder and began a grueling touring schedule that ultimately led to huge breaks opening for the likes of Dwight Yoakam and The Mavericks, alongside his two bandmates, Josh Halpern (drums) and Derrick Elliot (bass).
He quickly became known for his high-energy, impressive live shows, and Leines says the past few years of touring and missing home became a theme of this new record:
“‘Headcase’ is about doing whatever it takes to navigate the roads in your life. It is the sum of the majority of my thoughts of the last couple of years; longing for a sense of home, working hard to provide a living for myself, and the burning desire to chase after something more as an artist and personality.
It’s about the things we do to just keep on trucking. I like to view it as an audible look inside my head.”
The album is due out everywhere on June 14th, and features the previously-released working man’s anthem, “Double Wide,” which you can check out here:
