There weren’t even enough spaces in the four-letter first word of the puzzle for Wheel of Fortune contestant Tavaris to have any hope of getting his, “Right in the butt!” puzzle guess correct on Thursday night’s episode. He either deliberately ignored that fact, or didn’t care in the moment and figured viral fame would make it all worth it.
Longtime host Pat Sajak has probably seen his fair share of nonsense over the years hosting this all-timer of a game show, but Tavaris’ gaffe might take the cake as the funniest and most bizarre.

When you shoehorn in, “Rite in the butt!” to make Tavaris’ guess phonetically fit, it just makes it weirder. The only way Tavaris could’ve been right is by contextualizing that phrase as some sort of ceremonial act whereupon somebody goes through a ritual and then sticks something in their rear.
“This is the best!” is a much more sensible puzzle answer, if a little less imaginative and/or fun.
Alrighty then. Not going to analyze that much more. In fact, what else can be said about this? Tavaris messed up in a major way, had to wait however long until this eventually aired, and now is dealing with the globe-spanning ramifications. Imagine the audience in attendance for this moment. How many people across the nation had this reached before it was broadcast out to the masses? That’s what I want to know. Whatever the case, I’m glad it’s now immortalized and will be omnipresent on the Internet until the machines take over and strike it from the record on account of human stupidity, the sun explodes, etc.
I love that a couple reactions to Tavaris’ butt-centric thang exposed me (and perhaps you) to some more iconic game show clips.

Olga mistaking the actual specifics of “making whoopee” rather than the location is a classic mix-up. Then we got another Wheel reference from 1999 when a man went several levels too deep on his puzzle guess. I’m sad to say I’d never seen either of these before. Thank you to Tavaris for helping these other legendary clips make the rounds.
Here are the best of the rest of the reactions that I could find. If ever you’re on Wheel of Fortune, may you too goes down in the anals annals of game show history.
