A beautiful sight to see.
On Tuesday evening, Riley Green played a sold out show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado, which was his first time ever headlining there.
A bucket list venue for many artists, and not just country artists, it looked like an amazing show and of course, the stunning backdrop of the outdoor venue and mountains in the background makes it incredibly unique and special… I’m still trying to make it there one day for a concert.
And if you’ve ever seen Riley perform live, then you obviously know that one of the best moments of the show comes when he strips it back to just his acoustic guitar, sits on the stage, and performs his fan-favorite song “I Wish Grandpas Never Died.”
He wrote it after both of his grandfather’s had passed away, and I think it’s clear in the lyrics that both were important men that shaped Riley’s life and ultimately, the man he is now. Obviously, the sentiment of losing a person like that, who is so influential in your life, is something pretty much anyone can relate to and a large part of the reason it became so popular.
Both Riley’s Grandaddy Buford and Grandaddy Lyndon are listed as co-writers along with Riley, and the song has since been certified Platinum.
Riley often shares video of fans singing along to “Grandpa’s” at shows across the country, but this one from Red Rocks just feels a little more special… you can hear the fans singing along to every word, phone flashlights in the air and loving every minute of it in one of the prettiest venues in the country.
This is exactly what I love about live country music:
