Remember When Post Malone Joined Dwight Yoakam For A “Thousand Miles From Nowhere” Duet?

The countdown is on as Post Malone is set to officially release his first original “country” song in about 9 hours or so, and while I’m not expecting the second coming of Tyler Childers in the Posty gone country era, I’ve been waiting to hear this for a long time.

Titled “I Had Some Help,” the song is a duet with this guy named Morgan Wallen (maybe you’ve heard of him), and based on what we’ve already heard from the various teasers and full live performance debut at Stagecoach… it’s a certified banger. Guaranteed to be the song of the summer in the mainstream country music world. I’ll be the first one to say that it’s not my usual style, but it’s catchy as all hell. I’m getting slight “Shut Up And Dance With Me” vibes… another certified banger.

And of course, country is the cool kid right now, with everyone wanting to get in on the fun (and the dollars). We saw Beyonce drop her “country album” Cowboy Carter, even though she explicitly said it WASN’T a country album. Lana Del Rey, on the other hand, explicitly said she wanted to make a country album because it is popular right now. Ed Sheeran might have something in the works as well…

But Post has been talking about this for a long time, and back in 2015 (back before the face tats), even said some of his dream collaborations would be King George Strait and now, the late great Toby Keith. And if we flash back a few years, Post Malone and Dwight Yoakam gave you the duet you didn’t know you needed.

During the summer of 2018, Post Malone swung by Dwight Yoakam’s SiriusXM show, Dwight Yoakam & The Bakersfield Beat, and… your new favorite duo was born.

In all seriousness, this is just some guys bein’ dudes. Not just any dudes, but these two seem like two of the coolest dudes you could ever meet, so when they busted out the guitars, a little magic happened.

Malone and Yoakam sang Dwight’s classic, “A Thousand Miles From Nowhere.”

Post Malone Teams Up With Dwight Yoakam’s Band

But it didn’t stop there…

A couple years back, Matthew McConaughey’s “We’re Texas” virtual benefit concert raised $7.7 million for winter storm relief in Texas, and featured a ton of stellar performances from George Strait, Miranda Lambert, Parker McCollum, Randy Rogers, Willie Nelson and more.

The show was capped off with an absolute knockout performance from Post Malone, who just so happed to be in the studio with Dwight Yoakam’s band. And with one of the nastiest curveballs I’ve ever seen in my entire life, Post and company started in on a performance of Brad Paisley’s 2002 hit, “I’m Gonna Miss Her.”

And it was AWESOME.

I mean, I knew Post Malone could do country music, I just didn’t know how much I would love it.

But that wasn’t all…

During the ending credits, Post was back, this time with a boot stomping, jaw dropping cover of Sturgill Simpson’s “You Can Have The Crown.” Yes, you heard that correctly… Post Malone, with Dwight Yoakam’s band, covering an all-time great Sturgill Simpson classic. And he CRUSHED it.

I mean, I just can’t stop watching this damn video…
