It’s hard out here for a Carolina Panthers fan…
As a Chicago Bears fan myself, I’ve experienced my own fair share of shattered dreams and endless torture, but things are finally looking up (which means I’m inevitably just setting myself up for more disappointment). But part of that unrealistic optimism is owed to the Carolina Panthers who traded DJ Moore (stud) and bunch of picks, including this year’s first overall pick to the Bears for the chance to draft…. checks notes… Bryce Young. LET RYAN POLES COOK!
Granted, Bryce still has time to grow, and his supporting cast isn’t exactly much to write home about, but watching CJ Stroud ball out of control this past season had to feel like salt in the never-ending wound.
They traded Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th-round pick in 2023 and a 5th rounder in 2024. And then today, they let Brian Burns go to the New York Giants, once again without a first round pick.
When you add it all up, it looks like this:
Yeah, that’ll make anyone sick… not to mention, the Panthers lost hall of fame-caliber linebacker Luke Kuechly to retirement (concussions) at just 28 years old in 2020.
But today’s action was all country music’s own Panther fan, Luke Combs, could handle. In a long overdue outrage tweet, Luke sounded off on his team’s head-scratching roster moves:
“Panthers WHAT ARE WE DOING?!?!? No first round pick for McCaffrey a few years back and now none for Burns?!?! Are we just fire bombing the whole team here or what?
I usually don’t comment on these kinds of things but it’s just becoming slow torture at this point.”
