Already one of his best.

Riley Green has been teasing a new song here and there called “Jesus Saves,” which he previously shared in a simple acoustic video on Instagram that I immediately loved from the first listen. It honestly might be the most depth I’ve heard in his writing since his fan-favorite song “Numbers On Cars,” as he describes a worn down man he drives by every time he goes into town.

Of course, there’s always so much more to someone than what meets the eye, and Riley penned some very honest, striking lines in the chorus about the journey of this Army veteran (he mentions that later in the song):

“My daddy left for another woman, moved off to L.A.
My momma fought hard against that cancer,
She died when I was eight

I finished school my country shipped me off to war
When I came home my whole world didn’t love me anymore
It’s hard to see all that just driving by
So I just write down ‘Jesus Saves’
‘Cuz there ain’t no way I can fit that on a sign”

He goes on to detail how they get to know each other and some of the lessons that came from that, and though I’m not sure this is a true story, the sentiment of having grace for others and how you never know what someone else has been through in their life is absolutely universal.

And at the Country Radio Seminar event recently, Riley played it live for people in attendance, and it absolutely needs to be recorded and released ASAP (I’m guessing that might already be in the works). The fan response has already been overwhelmingly positive, and it’ll just about bring a tear to your eye, honestly:

And if you haven’t heard the full song yet, definitely take a few minutes out of your day to check it out. It’s well-worth your time to do so:

He also recently played it for fans at a concert in Huntsville, Alabama:

Riley is currently out on the road on his extensive headlining Ain’t My Last Rodeo Tour, which is in Virginia, Kentucky and Arkansas this weekend.
