It’s no secret that Taylor Sheridan’s expansive universe of shows has grown drastically over the past couple of years. It all started with Yellowstone, then Mayor of Kingstown. Then it was the Yellowstone prequel series 1883 and 1923.
On top of that, we’ve had the Sylvester Stallone led Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness, and Lawman: Bass Reeves… and the list continues to grow. He might be the busiest man in television…
Although Yellowstone has seen a ton of drama this year with the reported exit of Kevin Costner, along with the fact that we won’t be getting the second half of season five until next November due to the writers strike, Sheridan has still found a way to find success.
And if you thought Sheridan was slowing down anytime soon, think again, because the man has a slew of shows coming our way in 2024 and beyond.
Let’s take a look at them:
Yellowstone- Season 5 Part 2
Premiere: November 2024
As I said earlier, Yellowstone has seen a ton of drama this year. From the reported exit of Kevin Costner, the show’s abrupt ending after the second half of season five, and the fact that we won’t be getting the conclusion of the show until the end of next year thanks to the writers strike, it’s been a mess.
On top of that, Taylor Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch recently sued Cole Hauser’s coffee company, Free Rein, due to the similarities in the two company’s logos. Nevertheless, it’ll be intriguing to see how Sheridan ties everything together for the show’s finale.
1923 – Season 2
The second prequel series in the Yellowstone universe, this documents the Dutton family after settling in Montana at the Yellowstone Ranch. Set in the 1923, Season 1 tackled the hardships the family faced during Prohibition and ahead of The Great Depression, which struck Montana well before the rest of the country. Slated for 2 seasons, Season 1 premiered in December of 2022 and due to production delays and the strike, Seasons 2 has been pushed to 2024 at the earliest.
Another Yellowstone prequel series has been confirmed. Although there is hardly any information about it, it’s obvious that it’s set to take place smack dab in the middle of World War II, and it’ll be interesting to see the Dutton family’s involvement. Based on the timeline, we should see the story center around John Dutton’s father, John Dutton II.
After it was announced that Yellowstone would be coming to an end after the conclusion of season five, we also got wind of a new spinoff series possibly starring Matthew McConaughey. Rumored to feature some of the original Yellowstone cast, 2024 will continue on the modern-day Dutton story.
Many will remember in the most recent season of Yellowstone, when ranch hand Jimmy was sent down to the 6666 Ranch in Texas by John Dutton. There’s been talks about a 6666 spinoff series for some time, and I’m really hoping this one formulates.
Special Ops: Lioness – Season 2
Unconfirmed, but expected.
This one is based on a real-life CIA program, and follows a Marine recruited to befriend a daughter of a terrorist, in an effort to take down the terrorist organization. Starring Nicole Kidman and Zoe Saldana as Joe, the chief of the CIA’s Lioness Program and star of the show, the series premiered in July of 2023 and while Season 2 has not been confirmed, it’s expected to be a lock for another season.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves – Season 2
Set in the 1880s, the series stars David Oyelowo, who plays Bass Reeves, the “first African-American marshal west of the Mississippi, policing the entire Oklahoma territories.” The series premiered on November 5th , and we saw the finale on December 17th. It’s unclear if the show will look to do a second season, but we know the ratings were solid enough to justify one.
Mayor of Kingstown – Season 3
This show debuted back in November of 2021, and is based around the McLusky family in Kingstown, Michigan, a family full of power brokers between police, criminals, inmates, prison guards, and politicians, as they tackle the issues of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality within the prison system. After Renner’s miraculous injury from a snowplow accident, filming for season 3 is set to begin in early 2024.
Tulsa King – Season 2
The wild show about a mob member who moved out to Tulsa, Oklahoma has been a smashing success. Not to mention, one of the GOATs Sylvester Stallone stars in it. On top of that, the show’s been renewed for a second season.
This show has been in the works for quite some time now, as it’s based around the oil industry in West Texas. The series is set to star Billy Bob Thornton, who will play a crisis manager among the oil rigs. Filming is expected to begin in early 2024 so we could see the series premiere by the end of the year.
Needless to say, 2024 has the potential to be one helluva year for Taylor Sheridan.
