Earlier this week, we were hit with the shocking news that Michael Oher, whose story was depicted in the 2009 hit movie The Blind Side, was suing the family that took him in, the Tuohys.
The petition says that although the family says they adopted him, they didn’t, and they tricked him into signing a conservatorship after he turned 18 so that they could make money off of his name, image, and likeness. He alleges that he just found this out and that the family made a ton of money off the movie and the never got a cent.
Since then, the Sean Tuohy, the father of the family, has spoken out, saying that the conservatorship was not created to profit off Oher’s name, but rather ensure he was eligible to play football at Ole Miss:
“I sat Michael down and told him, ‘If you’re planning to go to Ole Miss — or even considering Ole Miss — we think you have to be part of the family. This would do that legally.’
We contacted lawyers who had told us that we couldn’t adopt over the age of 18; the only thing we could do was to have a conservatorship.
We were so concerned it was on the up-and-up that we made sure the biological mother came to court.”
It should be noted that Oher’s 2011 memoir also mentions his conservatorship so the idea that he just found this out seems pretty far-fetched.
Regardless of what exactly went down, it puts a massive dent in one of the most heartwarming movies of the 21st century.
With that being said, famed actor Sandra Bullock, who played Leigh Anne Tuohy in the movie, is speaking out about the situation. She took some ridiculous strays on social media this past week, with some bozos even suggesting she should give back her Oscar for her performance in the film.
A source close to the 59-year-old actor told The Daily Mail:
“She hates that such a wonderful story, a spectacular movie, and a spectacular time in her life now has been tainted.
Now, people won’t watch it and if they do, they will have a completely different reaction to its original intention.
There was so much hard work put into the film that they all thought was the truth and now that has been questioned, it just upsets Sandra to no end that a time in her life that was so special, is now shadowed with a completely different perspective.”
The source also noted that Bullock is putting on a “strong face,” even though she’s now receiving backlash for taking part in a story that could very well be false, saying:
“Sandra is putting up a strong face and a strong front as it has been a rough patch for her emotionally with the loss of Bryan, and now she is heartbroken in a different way with all the fallout from the Michael Oher news.
She is figuring out how to move forward from it all, it is just going to take a little bit, but emotions are very high right now for Sandra and she is looking forward to better days ahead.”
The source also said that Bullock is not paying any attention to the hate she has been receiving online as well.
