Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Wanted A Live Lion On The Sidelines This Season But The NFL Said “No”

It’s no secret that the Detroit Lions have been the laughing stock of the NFL over the past 30 years.

The franchise hasn’t won a playoff game since 1991, and have often been one of the worst teams in the league.

However, you could feel things start to change when the Lions hired Dan Campbell as their new head coach back in 2021.

Although they only went a sad 3-13-1 in his first season, the team showed a lot of promise, as they were competitive in just about every game they played in.

And in 2022, they made a massive leap by going 9-8, the Lions’ first winning season since 2017.

Needless to say, things are finally looking up in Detroit, and many expect this team to be a serious contender, and at least a playoff level team, in an NFC North that is seemingly up for grabs.

A lot of this hype can be credited to the energy Campbell has brought to this team and city when he arrived, as he’s one of the most likeable head coaching personalities in the game.

He’s also known for his hilarious and passionate press conferences and interviews.

With that being said, he showed that trait off once again.

Campbell recently sat down for an interview with Pardon My Take, where he hilariously said he wants an actual lion on the sidelines:

(Detroit Lions owner) Sheila Ford Hamp, she had no problem with it, but the league apparently frowns on those types of things.

I’m not gonna point out Roger on this, I’m just gonna say the league frowns on that, let’s just say that.”

Unbelievable… the “No Fun League” lives on.

Do you know how cool that would be to have an actual lion on the sidelines? College sports have all kinds of wild animals at the stadium… the NFL can’t?

Of course, it’s probably a huge safety risk considering these creatures have the ability to… you know… maul you to death. But it’ll be on a leash, right?

Nevertheless, I’m with Dan on this one.
