Flatland Cavalry has done it again.

One of the best bands in the business, led by songwriting savant and beloved frontman Cleto Cordero, Flatland Cavalry has released new music. And as you might have guessed, their latest single “Last American Summer” is another heater.

Based in Nashville, by way of Lubbock, TX, the six-piece country outfit has delivered another sonically spectacular track with heartfelt lyricism that is sure to resonate with fans everywhere, and this one in particular may just be one of the soundtracks to your summer this year. In a post to the band’s Instagram account not too long ago, Cordero provided some interesting insight into how “Last American Summer” came to be.

“We couldn’t be more excited to let you know that we have a brand new single that’s gonna come out on June 30th.

A few years ago, I was sitting hanging out in Oklahoma because we weren’t allowed to tour for obvious reasons, and I was sitting in my mother-in-law’s backyard where I was hanging out and I made a little garden and stuff.

And I was sitting there chilling in a little chair and kind of the words floated right above the garden. It said ‘Last American Summer’ and I was like man, that sounds like a song title.

And rather than writing an apocalyptic song about the last American summer, we wrote a little love story instead, and I hope it resonates to this time of year and falling in love and good ol’ America.”

Co-written between Cordero and Will Hoge, a spectacular songwriter in his own right, “Last American Summer” uses clever lyricism and vivid imagery to paint a picture for the listener that will take everyone to their ideal summer place.

With a very timely release, just days before the Fourth of July, this one is sure to be blasting through speakers all across America for the rest of this summer and summers to come.

“And the fireworks are burning in your eyes
Outshining all the stars up in the sky
What a thing to get myself into
Here I am: Red, white and blue
Falling under
Last American summer…”

So without further ado, give Flatland Cavalry’s latest single “Last American Summer” a listen below:

While it may have felt like an eternity, it had only been eight months since Flatland Cavalry last released new music, with their extremely well-received Songs To Keep You Warm EP back in October.

Nevertheless, the country music fans’ insatiable desire for more music with Flatland’s signature sound has been satisfied for the time being, and “Last American Summer” is one of the best singles released thus far in 2023.

If you’re like me, and you immediately want to hear a new song live once it comes out, then you are in luck, Flatland Cavalry has tons of tour dates across the country this year. Whether it’s a stadium show with Luke Combs, a big time festival set, or a headlining gig at a concert hall or amphitheater, there’s a solid chance they’re coming to a venue near you.

If you haven’t seen them live yet, Flatland Cavalry is an all star lineup of musicians that put on an absolute show, and you’re not going to want to miss it.

With Jason Albers on drums, Reid Dillon slingin’ guitar, Jonathan Saenz on bass, jack of all trades Adam Gallegos, Wesley Hall bringing the energy on fiddle, and of course the aforementioned Cordero leading the charge, these fellas will give the fans a genre-bending show for the ages.

Check out their touring schedule on their website, and keep on listening to their music all summer long.

While we’re on this subject, go ahead and queue up their early classic “Summertime Love.”
