It was a big night at the Grand Ole Opry for Ashley Cooke last night.

The rising star and member of the Grand Ole Opry’s Opry NextStage class of 2023 was not only making her third appearance in the iconic circle, but she also dropped some big news on the Tuesday night Opry crowd: Her debut album, shot in the dark, is dropping on July 21.

And she gave the folks at the Opry a taste of her new music, delivering the debut performance of “state I’m in” off the upcoming record.

Speaking to Whiskey Riff about the song, Ashley said:

“I got to debut the song here at the Opry tonight, which was so much fun.

I was in a tour van, touring around the country as we do as young artists, and I was scrolling through Instagram and I was seeing so many of my friends posting that they’re getting married, or having babies, and all these exciting things in their life. And I was just so excited for them.

And I took a deep breath and I realized, like, ‘Wow, I’m so excited for them and I’m so happy for me that I’m in such a different phase of my life than they are.’ And it’s beautiful that we can have such different lives at the same age…

It’s the last song on the album, and it feels like the perfect kinda like, ‘hey, this is where I’m at in my life’ kinda song. So it felt perfect to end the album with it.”

Ashley will be dropping three new songs from her debut album on Friday. But until then, you can check out Ashley’s debut performance of “state i’m in” live from the Grand Ole Opry stage, exclusively here on Whiskey Riff:
