Raccoons run on Dunkin’.
Slightly different than the traditional slogan of “America Runs on Dunkin’,” but I just wanted to make it more specific to this video.
If you haven’t already seen this viral clip, it could very well hold the title of “Best Animal Video Ever” and is perfect with tomorrow being National Donut Day.
I simply love everything about this. Some Dunkin’ customers were making their way through the drive thru of the coffee chain when they get held up by somebody in front of them in the line.
Usually being stuck in the drive thru is one of the most frustrating experiences that can happen in your everyday life, but as you’ll see, the customer in front of them wasn’t your average, run-of-the-mill coffee drinker.
Instead, it was a curious little raccoon who seems to have prime real estate when it comes to raccoon housing. The little animal comes right out of the bushes and peers at the drive thru window, even standing on its back legs at points to get a better look at what is going on.
The individuals in the car provide some commentary on the wild animal sighting, excitedly saying as they see the raccoon:
“What in the world? My dude. He wants some Dunkin’ Donuts.”
And they were exactly right.
The raccoon must have been scoping out the place for quite some time, observing the order of operations and crafting a plan of its own. The small animals are naturally always looked at as scavengers, especially since their physical markings make them look like masked (and gloved) robbers.
However, this little guy had enough of climbing through the garbage for food and decided to instead go straight to the source. I like to imagine that the raccoon sat and watched for a while, then thought to itself:
“Alright, I think I get how this works. All I do is just go up to that magic window, wait patiently, and then I’ll be handed food through it.”
And that’s exactly what happened.
The “trash panda” waltzes right up to the window, looks in at the drive thru worker as if it’s waiting for the “Double Mocha Frappuccino” it ordered, and then is politely offered a donut with white icing on top.
The raccoon says “don’t mind if I do,” grabs at the pastry with its tiny little hands, places the donut the size of its head into its mouth, and then retreats back into the bushes to have what is most likely the best thing it has ever tasted in its life.
It’s all downhill from there little buddy. Unless the raccoon manages to make this a regular visit. It better get the coffee shop’s app so it can rack up on Dunkin’ rewards.
And as I mentioned earlier, the commentary from those filming the encounter definitely enhanced the experience of the video. Most of what is said below was said in a giggly, high-pitched voice, which made it all the better:
“Don’t hit him, don’t hit him. What is he doing? Are they going to give him a donut? Are they going to give him a donut? Oh my God, do it. Throw him the donut.
Oh! Look at him waiting. Oh my God!”
