Seagull Sits Atop Another Flying Seagull & Rides Like The Wind

Props to this seagull, it seems to have things figured out.

I don’t know about you, but I find seagulls to be one of the most annoying birds on the planet. The tireless squawking, the pestering for snacks, the dumping on beaches. Just type in the words “seagulls suck” on Google and you’ll see that a lot of other people feel the same way.

Even someone who writes for Save Coastal Wildlife (.org) conceded:

“There are a lot of people who are angry with them (seagulls). They find gulls to be ‘rats of the sky’ or ‘s**t hawks,’ or ‘bags of crap with wings.'”

Exactly, thank you for saying that Joseph Reynolds, President of the Save Coastal Wildlife nonprofit.

I say all of that to now pivot and say that this video brought seagulls up a bit on my “hated birds” list, and that is saying something. It takes a lot to change my mind, but this funny clip of a lazy seagull gives a couple of points to “Team Seagull” (not to be confused with “Team Seagal” supporting the legendary action actor Steven Seagal).

I’m sure we’ve all been on the coast before and seen seagulls or pelicans or whatever bird is native to the area fighting the wind coming off the ocean. Sometimes its funny to watch the bird fly with all of their might and seem to stay in place in the air despite all of their efforts.

It’s also very fun to watch the birds fly down-wind because I like to think that while they are flying with the wind at their backs, they are internally thinking “oh s**t, oh s**t, oh s**t.” Flying with the wind on the coast has to be the bird equivalent to riding a rollercoaster.

This pair of seagulls in the clip happen to be flying against the wind, and they really aren’t making much progress. It appears that one of the birds becomes tired of trying to fight the wind, but instead of landing on the ground or in a tree, it just decides to set up shop on the back of its flying companion.

You’ve got to hand it to this seagull, this might be a trend setting moment for birds. Flocks of birds could expedite their migration times by taking shifts, sitting on the backs of their flock-mates from time to time to take breaks.

The other seagull doesn’t seem to be happy about having its flying partner on its back, but if they get to take turns against the wind, maybe it will warm up to the idea.

Take a look:

Call me crazy, but the way the bird is chilling with its wings spread out reminds me of the classic scene from James Cameron’s Titanic where Jack and Rose are at bow of the ship.

The video of the seagulls even spawned this parody video of the song “A Whole New World” from the movie Aladdin.

I can’t tell if it’s cringey or comedy…
