Miranda Lambert is a free agent for the first time in 20 years.

Last month, she abruptly announced that she was parting ways with her longtime label Sony after 20 years, though she never gave a very specific reason as to why, only responding to a comment in the post below saying:

“Knowing your worth is everything.”

It remains to be seen if she’ll sign with another major Nashville label, or maybe a major label outside of Music City, but personally, I’d really love to see her stay independent and keep doin’ what she’s doing with full control over every aspect of her music.

And she recently spoke about her departure from Sony publicly for the first time with ABC Audio, saying that she’s a “free agent” for the first time in 20 years, so she’s excited to explore all of her options:

“I am, for the first time in 20 years, a free agent. I don’t have a label and I feel pretty great about it.

I mean, I have Vanner Records, which was my imprint that now I have. And it feels very inspiring to get to go see what’s out there and what options [there are].”

She continued, noting how much the music landscape has changed since she first signed a record deal at 19 years old, saying she’s excited to learn more about the business and explore all of her options:

“And, you know, it’s definitely a very different landscape than the first time I signed my first record deal at 19 years old.

Everything has changed in the business, and I’m excited to learn about it and hopefully be part of a new wave of whatever’s going on, because it changes so quickly. But I do have a home, and it’s Nashville and this community.

So I’m excited to see what comes to the table. And in the meantime, I’m just working on stuff and like getting inspired and seeing what’s fueling my creative vibes.”

She also said that she’s been “writing a ton” and has “a few cool collabs” up her sleeve right now, which is really exciting, too.

She most recently worked with Luke Combs on a duet called “Outrunnin’ Your Memory,” from his 2022 Growin’ Up record.

Plus, with so many business endeavors Miranda’s constantly working on, like her clothing label Idyllwind, her Mutt Nation foundation, and even current Las Vegas residency, I don’t think this means she’s going to be slowing down any, no matter where she ultimately lands.

She’s also gearing up to release a cook book Y’all Eat Yet? next Tuesday, April 25th.

And to quote Miranda’s #1 hit “Bluebird,” she’s always got a wildcard up her sleeve, and you never really know exactly what her next move might be, so I’m excited to watch it all unfold…
