Now this is a dream duo if I could’ve ever hand-picked one out myself.
Morgan Wade and Ashley Monroe debuted a new song called “Want” at the Ryman Auditorium last week during Morgan’s headlining set, and I am, quite literally, obsessed with everything about it.
A co-write with Angaleena Presley, of whom Ashley is a band member of the Pistol Annies with, along with Miranda Lambert, Morgan told the crowd she was extremely nervous to write with them for the first time a while back.
She noted that Ashley has some “really sexy songs on her records,” and she loves her angelic vocals, so it was a natural fit, and of course, they ended up writing a fantastic song:
“Ashley’s got some really, honestly some really sexy songs on her records, some real saucy stuff. And so I went and sat down with her and Angaleena, the first time we met, we wrote this song.
And it was really nice, and I was really nervous, because I’ve been a big fan of hers for a long time. She’s very angelic… and she came in and sang it on the record with me.”
Ashley shared a clip of the performance on her Instagram, saying that the song will be featured on Morgan’s forthcoming (yet unofficially announced) studio album:
“I know what I want… to keep chasing this wild musical adventure for as long as I live.
Loved writing ‘Want’ with @morganwademusic and @guitarleena for Morgan’s new album, and loved singing it with her and @sadlervaden at the best place on earth, @theryman.
And @megmcree, I’m so proud and amazed by you. I’m honored to have witnessed your Ryman debut.”
The two badass ladies were joined on stage by producer Sadler Vaden (who you might know as a member of Jason Isbell’s band, The 400 Unit), and I absolutely cannot wait to hear the real deal studio cut (hopefully) sometime soon.
I mean, you’d be hard-pressed to find two better vocalists, and writers, in the game right now… and seeing as they’re two of my favorite artists in all of music, it’s pretty damn cool to see them teaming up in this capacity, and I hope there’s more to come from them as a duo in the future.
